After Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fell apart, Pacquiao almost immediately chose Joshua Clottey as an opponent for the reserved March 13th date. As for Mayweather, not only was there question of whether he would fight in March or May, but his next opponent would remain a mystery. Names such as Paulie Malignaggi, Nate Campbell, and Kermit Cintron were in consideration, but none would be confirmed as his next opponent. Suddenly, due to the problems in Haiti, Andre Berto pulled out of his bout against Shane Mosley scheduled for January 30th, thus making Mosley available.
Mosley spent 2009 trying to land a shot against either Pacquiao or Mayweather. As intriguing as those match-ups sounded, Pacquiao would face Miguel Cotto and Mayweather would face Juan Manuel Marquez in order to prepare for a possible face off against each other. Mosley confronted Mayweather after Floyd defeated Marquez last September, but couldn’t make a dent in the plans for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. With a couple obstacles out of the way, it looks like Mosley will finally get to face Mayweather.
Although negotiations for Mosley and Mayweather are said to be “ongoing” and not quite a done deal, there is little doubt that these two will finalize a deal in the near future.
In addition, it appears that UFC president Dana White is now rescheduling UFC 113 from May 1st to May 8th in order to avoid going head-to-head with the major boxing event.
