GAMBOA AND LOPEZ VICTORIOUS
24-01-2010
Saturday night, on HBO, regular WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa completely dominated Rogers Mtagwa en route to a 2nd round TKO.
Gamboa handspeed and power did the trick, dropping Mtagwa once in the first and twice in the second before the bout was waved off by referee Steve Smoger. Official time of stoppage was 2:35.
Also, WBO jr. featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez defeated Steven Luevano by seventh-round TKO to win the WBO featherweight belt. Lopez took his time and slowly broke down Luevano. In the seventh, Lopez connected with a hard uppercut and followed up with a left right combo that floored him. Luevano rose to his feet, but was still wobbly, prompting referee Benji Estevez to end the contest. Official time of stoppage was 0:44.
