This Friday, one of the fastest rising stars in boxing, Beibut Shumenov, will get a rematch against WBA light heavyweight champion Gabriel Campillo (19-2, 6 KOs) on Fox Sports Net.
In their first meeting last August, Campillo handed Shumenov his first defeat by a controversial majority decision.
Shumenov was born on August 19, 1983 in Chimkent, Kazakhstan, and currently carries a record of 8-1, with 6 KOs.
He turned professional in 2007 and quickly began to dominate his opponents. Within six months, Shumenov knocked out all five opponents he faced. He was taken this distance for the first time when he faced former world champion Montell Griffin in August of 2008, a bout that Shumenov won every round on all three scorecards.
In only his 9th pro bout, Shumenov was given a title shot against Gabriel Campillo. In a close contest, most observers expected Shumenov to receive the victory by a unanimous decision. Instead, Campillo retained his title with a decision that was first announced as unanimous but was changed to a majority decision the following day after a scoring error was discovered. Due to the controversial scoring, a rematch was ordered to take place, and will finally happen this Friday.
