By Joe Harrison
On Friday, super middleweight prospect Donovan George (19-0-1, 17 KOs) defeated Phil Williams (11-3, 10 KOs) by a third-round TKO at Windy City Fight Night 8 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.
George made quick work of an opponent who was expected to be a tough test as well as a step up in competition.
The contest started off with George using his jab to keep Williams at bay. George would continue to dictate the pace as he threw combinations and blocked counter punches from Williams.
During the second round, George became more aggressive and began to close in on his opponent. Suddenly, during the third round, George caught Williams with a right hand that staggered him. George seized the opportunity, and attacked Williams with a barrage of punches that sent him down. Although Williams rose to one knee, he did not beat the count and the bout was over at the official time of 2:43.
Also on the card, jr. welterweight Ivan Popoca (13-0-1, 9 KOs) scored a third-round TKO over Federico Flores Jr. (6-4, 2 KOs). Popaca seemed to be very confident as he aggressively attacked his Flores, but was caught with many punches in the process. Popaca was still doing damage, and in the 3rd round, Flores was dropped by a right hand. Despite looking badly hurt, Flores was able to rise and continue. Popaca followed up with several crushing blows, forcing referee Celestino Ruiz to end the contest at the official time of 2:10.
