WEEKEND WINNERS: CAIN VELASQUEZ, DANIEL PONCE DE LEON, SHAWN PORTER...

Giovani Segura strikes his opponentOn Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 110, Cain Velasquez knocked out Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira with a three punch combination at the 2:20 mark.

 

 

Also on the card, Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva won by a three-round unanimous decision over Michael “The Count” Bisping. While Bisping appeared to press the action through each round, Silva finished strong at the end of every round, nearly knocking out Bisping at the end of the third. All scores read 29-28.

 

 

On Saturday night at the Auditorio Plaza La Condesa in Mexico City, Mexico, featherweight Daniel Ponce De Leon scored a third-round knockout over Orlando Cruz. The official time was 2:37 seconds.

 

Also, welterweight Lucas Martin Matthysse stopped Vivian Harris in the fourth round. The official time was 2:44.

 

 

On Saturday night at the Zamna Poliforum in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, WBC featherweight champion Elio Rojas won by a twelve-round unanimous decision over former Guty Espadas. Espadas had a good eighth round, but the rest of the fight was all Rojas. Scores were 120-108 and 119-109 twice.

 

 

On Saturday night at the Discoteca El Alebrije in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, WBA jr. flyweight champion Giovani Segura scored a third round stoppage over Walter Tello. The first couple rounds were action packed as Segura was gaining the upper hand. In the third, referee Luis Pabon jumped in and declared Segura as the winner at the time of 1:56.

 

 

On Saturday night at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana, heavyweight Fres Oquendo scored a ninth-round TKO over Demetrice King. Oquendo battered King until he chose not to come out for the tenth round.

 

 

On Friday night at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio, jr. middleweight Shawn Porter won a ten-round unanimous decision over Russell Jordan. Although it was expected that Porter would showcase his power and skills, Russell gave him a tough fight. In addition to the competitive bout, Russell was deducted a point by referee Randy Jarvis in round nine for losing his mouthpiece. In the end, scores were 97-92 twice and 100-89, all for Porter.
