After a competitive start, Guerrero was battered by Darchinyan, but would not submit. In the end, scores were 120-108, 118-110, and 117-111.
Meanwhile, at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT, and televised on HBO, WBC super lightweight champion Devon Alexander unified his belt with the IBF title by stopping Juan Urango in the eighth round. Alexander was aggressive has he used his speed and reach effectively against his opponent. Going into the middle rounds, Urango began to get inside and land the better, harder punches. Suddenly, in round eight, Alexander landed a perfect right uppercut that sent Urango to the canvas. Urango was able to get up but Alexander attacked and Urango found himself right back to the canvas. Urango rose again, but referee Benji Estedes called a halt to the fight at the 1:12 mark.
At the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, welterweight Shamone Alvarez knocked out Alexis Camacho in the seventh round on Saturday night. Alvarez had much success with his left hand, and in the seventh, landed another crushing left hand that dropped Camacho and ended the contest at the time of 1:30.
Also, at the Palenque de la Feria, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico, top welterweight Saul Alvarez scored a third-round KO over Brian Camechis. Alvarez immediately took control in round one, then knocked Camachis down twice in round two, and finished him with a huge left hook early in round three. Official time was 0:23.
In MMA action on Saturday night, Dominick Cruz was awarded the WEC world bantamweight title after Brian Bowles was unable to continue due to a broken hand at the end of the second round. Cruz was constantly a step ahead as he used his footwork and counterpunching to remain in control. Bowles was game and brought the fight to Cruz, but continued to have difficulty landing. After the second round, the contest was called off when a ringside physician declared that Bowles was unable to continue.
