The fight will be televised on pay-per-view.
Diaz was born on September 17, 1983, in Houston, Texas and currently carries a record of 35-3, 17 KOs.
Diaz made his pro debut September of 2000 and won the WBA lightweight title with his defeat of Lakva Sim in July of 2004. Diaz unified his belt with the WBO title by defeating Acelino Freitas in April of 2007. In the following bout, he defeated Julio Diaz and added the IBF strap to his collection in October of 2007.
Diaz’s run came to an end when he was defeated by Nate Campbell in March of 2008. He rebounded with a win over Michael Katsidis later that year, but was then defeated by Juan Manuel Marquez in February of last year.
Since then, Diaz has split victories with Paulie Malignaggi near the jr. welterweight limit. Now he will make his return to the lightweight division.
When Diaz faces Marquez this weekend, it will be a rematch of their bout last year which earned “Fight of the year” in 2009. Not only will there be a lot of fireworks, but the winner will be recognized as the best lightweight in the world.
